Tony Abeyta

Tony Abeyta is a Diné (Navajo) artist celebrated for his contemporary mixed-media work, painting in charcoal, oil, acrylic, and silver. He earned his degree from New York University and later received an honorary doctorate from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, along with the New Mexico Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts and recognition as a Native Treasure by the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, both in 2012.

Art runs in the family, he is the youngest of three children born to Diné artists Narciso and Sylvia Shipley Abeyta, and grew up alongside siblings Pablita and Elizabeth, all of whom built careers across painting, pottery, weaving, and silversmithing. Today, his own work has reached audiences worldwide and is held in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Denver Art Museum, and the Autry Museum, among many others. Abeyta divides his time between studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Berkeley, California.
